Seal of Climate Literacy Earns 2026 Best of Green Schools Award for Movement of the Moment

Award Spotlights Organizations and Individuals Dedicated to Sustainability in Schools

San Diego, CA – February 17, 2026 – The Seal of Climate Literacy has been named a 2026 Best of Green Schools Award recipient for the Movement of the Moment category, presented by the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Schools National Network. The awards celebrate the hard work being done by people, schools, campuses and organizations to accelerate the green schools movement.

The Seal of Climate Literacy recognizes high school students who demonstrate a strong understanding of climate science, climate solutions, and civic engagement. By providing a statewide credential that acknowledges climate knowledge and leadership, the Seal encourages schools to integrate climate literacy into curriculum and empowers students to take informed action in their communities. The growing movement has helped states and school systems recognize climate education as a critical component of preparing students for the future.

The award was accepted on behalf of Lyra, the organization supporting the expansion of the Seal of Climate Literacy, by Ellarie Anderson and Mary Seawell, with support from the team at UndauntedK12, whose leadership has helped advance climate literacy and sustainable practices across school systems.

“This recognition reflects the incredible momentum behind climate education and the students, educators, and partners who are working to ensure climate literacy becomes a foundational part of learning,” said Ellarie Anderson, Senior Growth Manager at Lyra. “We’re honored to accept this award on behalf of the many states, districts, and organizations building the Seal of Climate Literacy movement together.”

“The 2026 Best of Green Schools recipients are individuals and groups that have dedicated their efforts to creating healthy environments for students and educators,” said Anisa Heming, director, Center for Green Schools at USGBC. “Their exceptional work is a testament to the reach of the Green Schools movement and the impact that resilient schools have on their communities.”

“The 2026 Best of Green Schools honorees remind us that sustainability in education is not just a goal—it’s a long-term commitment grounded in people, leadership, and strategic thinking,” said Ileana Albareda, executive director at the Green Schools National Network (GSNN). “Their work is shaping healthier, more resilient schools for students to learn and thrive. They are part of a growing network of changemakers, and their leadership continues to inspire others to take action and create lasting impact.”

The Center for Green Schools and Green Schools National Network received hundreds of nominations of individuals and organizations that have made an impact in advancing green schools in 2025. The 2026 recipients of the Best of Green Schools Award were announced during the Green Schools Conference in San Diego.
